Margaret Wynn Legacy to Live Forever

The legacy of Margaret C. Wynn, a nurse who kept her license active until her late 80’s, will live on forever through the creation of the Margaret Wynn Memorial Nursing Scholarship through Benefis Healthcare Foundation.

In her estate planning, Margaret included a provision that resulted in the donation of $191,586 to establish this special scholarship to help educate nurses. In total, Margaret left more than $1.3 million to several local organizations.

For Tom and Shauna Cook and their children, Margaret was a cherished part of their family.

“She was a wonderful person,” said Tom Cook, a friend and conservator of Margaret’s estate. “Her life was dedicated to serving others. She was a devout Catholic and worked as a registered nurse most of her life. Her religion and career were her priorities.”

Margaret graduated from the Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls in 1934. She was a longtime office nurse for local, legendary physicians Dr. Keenan and Dr. Allred.

She was married to John Wynn for 54 years until he died in 1996. They had no children.

The Cooks met Margaret when they first moved to Great Falls. She was their neighbor but became a dear friend.

“She developed some memory loss and moved into assisted living for about a year,” said Tom. “(My wife) Shauna and I felt like we could give her better care, so she moved into our home and became a part of our family. Margaret had no family here and neither did we, so it worked out well for all of us. Our kids were blessed with a live-in grandmother for a few years.”
