The Angel Fund
Emily Rose Starcher One of the First Helped by the Program
Emily Starcher started her life out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Benefis.
Emily was born in April 1997 with three holes in her heart and a collapsed aortic arch. Fortunately Emily’s case was treatable, and she underwent two open-heart surgeries several months apart at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City to repair the damage. The Angel Fund of Benefis Healthcare Foundation was able to assist the family with expenses for their trips to Salt Lake City.
As one of the first families helped by the Angel Fund, Keith, Don and Emily Rose Starcher still stay in touch with the Foundation. After more than a decade has passed, the Starchers remain ever thankful. “We will forever be grateful for the Angel Fund and the Foundation. You were there to help us at a time when it felt like the world was falling in on us, and our family will never forget that. We send all of our prayers, hopes and wishes to all who have helped with the Angel Fund.”
Today, nine-year-old Emily “is doing beautifully,” her Mom proudly reports. “She swims, dances, sings and loves to read. She loves school and you would never know she had been ill.”
The Angel Fund, a Foundation program that provides direct financial assistance to families who have seriously ill children under the age of 18, has been lending a helping hand for eleven years. The program has made a significant impact on the lives of those in need during one of the most difficult times the family will ever endure.
