George Kato was in his early 50’s when he was diagnosed with cancer. Cancer is devastating news that possesses the mind from the moment the word is first heard. He remembered when he first told his family that he had cancer and how devastating that was. He also knew the importance of having your family by your side.
As a result of having cancer, George volunteered over 5,000 hours for the Radiation Oncology department and was on the cancer center campaign cabinet. George would often tell other cancer patients, “you’ve got to keep in mind that you are going to beat that cancer no matter what it is; you’re going to beat it.” After living with cancer for more than 25 years, George died in February 2005 from natural causes.
