 In January 2005 Benefis Healthcare Foundation was pleased to announce a Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant was awarded in the amount of $750,000 toward the construction of Sletten Cancer Institute. With a total cost of over $20 million for the project, Benefis Healthcare Foundation made a commitment to the hospital to provide $8.5 million toward the project, with the $750,000 Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant included in that overall goal. When the challenge began the Foundation needed to raise $827,552 by December 31, 2005. Fundraising efforts will continue through year-end.
The Kresge Foundation headquartered in Troy, Michigan, is an independent, private foundation created by the personal gifts of Sebastian S. Kresge. It is not affiliated with any corporation or organization. Grants are made toward projects involving construction or renovation of facilities and the purchase of major capital equipment or real estate. Significant funds must be raised prior to requesting assistance from The Kresge Foundation. Worthy applicants are awarded the grant with the stipulation that remaining funds needed to reach its goal must be raised within a certain time frame, assuring completion of the project.
