[Back to SCI]
The joy of giving doesn’t usually start at such a young age. It certainly did in the case of 9-year old Diamond Kavran. Diamond already has a fundamental understanding of giving – giving helps others. What started out as a having a little fun selling lemonade earlier this summer ended by Diamond raising and donating $7.28 to SCI to help women with breast cancer. “I sold cups for .50 cents, but sometimes they would give me a dollar and tell me to keep the change,” she smiles.
When asked what made her even consider giving the money to help those with cancer she says “Well I figured that if Evie had breast cancer then so do other people.”& Diamond’s babysitter, Evie Johnson is a 20-year breast cancer survivor. Diamond has tagged along with Evie while she attends her Breast Cancer support group luncheons and was able to make the connection during those luncheons that others have cancer and need help. Dad Jessie says that he is very proud of his daughter. “I have tried to teach Diamond the importance of giving. It builds character and humbles a person. It gives a sense of ones self and makes you feel good. It also helps the community we live in.”
