Benefis Healthcare Foundation’s Medical Education Scholarship is designed to assist with Benefis Healthcare’s recruitment and retention efforts for the purpose of ensuring that compassionate, quality care is extended to all patients. The Foundation recognizes the special needs of those individuals, who desire to change careers, further their education or complete their degree. Scholarships are offered to eligible students that want to obtain and/or advance healthcare education or certification and are willing to sign a Work Commitment Agreement with Benefis Healthcare.

The Jane M. Buckman Husted Scholarship was established by Paul and Lori Husted to benefit students pursuing their RN degree and is named in honor of Paul’s mother, Jane M. Buckman Husted. Mrs. Buckman Husted graduated from the School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa in 1943. From 1945 until 1947 she served with the Army Nursing Corps including a tour of duty in Tokyo. In all, she served for thirty-five years in the nursing profession before her retirement.
This scholarship provides for books and tuition up to $1,000 per student per semester. Student must be an ADN or RN pursuing a BSN. This scholarship carries a Work Commitment to Benefis Healthcare upon graduation.
Dr. Terry L. Jackson was a physician who specialized in pain management, physical medicine and rehabilitation. He practiced in Great Falls for eleven years and served as Director of Rehabilitation at Columbus Hospital. It was his wish to establish a scholarship fund to assist students pursuing careers in medicine. To fulfill his wishes the Terry L. Jackson, M.D. Memorial Scholarship was created for students interested in becoming a Physical Therapy Assistant.
The Terry L. Jackson, M.D. Memorial Scholarship is administered through Benefis Healthcare Foundation. Applicants must be a Montana State University – College of Technology, Great Falls student enrolled in the Physical Therapy Assistant Program. Selections will be made through the Foundation’s Healthcare Scholarship Selection Committee. The amount and number awarded for these Scholarships is subject to change each year.
To honor Darcy Dengel, Mercy Flight Nurse and Paul Erickson, Mercy Flight Paramedic, who lost their lives in service on February 6, 2007, the Darcy Dengel Nursing Scholarship and the Paul Erickson Paramedic Scholarship were established.

The Darcy Dengel Nursing Scholarship was established to assist students pursuing a BSN or Masters Degree , BSN or Masters Degree in nursing in the state of Montana. This scholarship is to be applied to books and tuition only. The amount and number awarded for this scholarship is subject to change each year. Scholarship funding is renewable, although not automatic. A renewable application must be completed and submitted along with grade documentation by May 15th for summer and fall renewals and October 1st for spring renewals.
The Paul Erickson Paramedic Scholarship was established to assist students attending a Paramedic program in the state of Montana. This scholarship provides for books and tuition only. The amount and number awarded for this scholarship is subject to change each year. Scholarship funding is renewable, although not automatic. A renewable application must be completed and submitted along with grade documentation by May 15th for summer and fall renewals and October 1st for spring renewals.

The giving spirit of Darlene Glantz Skees will live on forever through this scholarship established by her husband John. This prestigious scholarship provides opportunities for healthcare professionals employed by Benefis Healthcare to advance their education to better serve patients. Recipients receive up to $2,500 per semester for tuition, fees and books.
Hard working and well liked, Doris Smith served nearly 35 years as a registered nurse with Montana Deaconess Medical Center until just before her death in 1983. She was known for her delightful sense of humor and warm personality. Aware of her devotion and interest in the future of nursing, friends and family created a nursing scholarship in Doris' name.
It was through the special interest of Rev. W. Van Orsdel that the Deaconess Hospital, now Benefis Healthcare, first began providing care in Great Falls in 1898. In memory of the hospital’s founder and the significant contributions he made to the medical care of people in Montana, an annual nursing scholarship was created.
Margaret was a graduate of the Columbus School of Nursing and spent her entire career as a nurse. We are honored she chose us to continue her legacy of helping others. She left her entire estate to charity and her incredible generosity included establishing an endowment in her name to fund scholarships for nurses.
