Named Endowment Opportunities

Gifts to Benefis Healthcare Foundation can be permanently recognized with the establishment of an endowment. Endowments offer lasting financial resources for Benefis Healthcare Foundation through investment income and provide assurance for the donor that their legacy will always benefit the service of their choice.

Several named endowments established
with Benefis Healthcare Foundation are:

Darlene Glantz Skees Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The giving spirit of Darlene Glantz Skees will live on forever through this scholarship established by her husband John. This prestigious scholarship provides opportunities for healthcare professionals employed by Benefis Healthcare to advance their education to better serve patients. Recipients receive up to $2,500 per semester for tuition, fees and books.

Smith/Van Orsdel Nursing Scholarship

Hard working and well liked, Doris Smith served nearly 35 years as a registered nurse with Montana Deaconess Medical Center until just before her death in 1983.  She was known for her delightful sense of humor and warm personality.  Aware of her devotion and interest in the future of nursing, friends and family created a nursing scholarship in Doris' name.

It was through the special interest of Rev. W. Van Orsdel that the Deaconess Hospital, now Benefis Healthcare, first began providing care in Great Falls in 1898.  In memory of the hospital’s founder and the significant contributions he made to the medical care of people in Montana, an annual nursing scholarship was created.

Margaret Wynn Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Margaret was a graduate of the Columbus School of Nursing and spent her entire career as a nurse. We are honored she chose us to continue her legacy of helping others. She left her entire estate to charity and her incredible generosity included establishing an endowment in her name to fund scholarships for nurses.

Olive Ario Alzheimer’s Endowment

Keith Ario, in memory of his wife Olive, established the Olive Ario Alzheimer’s Care Endowment Fund. This gift will benefit the lives of Alzheimer’s patients and their families for years to come.

William Barber Ellis Endowment for Children’s Health Services
The legacy of the late William Barber Ellis is flourishing with programs that have been funded by his endowment. Established to assist with children’s healthcare needs, some of the programs included are:

The Infant Security System located in the Family Birth Center at Benefis Healthcare. The system helps protect against the horrifying experience of baby swapping and baby snatching. A special wristband is placed on the baby at birth, corresponding to a wristband worn by the mother. If the baby is taken into an unauthorized area an alarm will sound automatically alerting hospital and law enforcement personnel.
The Think First Program, a prevention program aimed at youth, is based on safety awareness designed to prevent head and spinal cord injuries by helping kids recognize risk-taking behavior.
An annual Safety First Rally is held in June involving dozens of community organizations working together to educate young people about ways to prevent injury. A free bike helmet is given to every child who participates.
